Ren Seeks Help differs from the rest of APC in that it has some kind of actual story (that is, Ren coming to terms with his insanity) and mood. Part of me wishes all of APC kept this dark story/mood. Imagine a version like the OG series, but focusing more on Ren’s deteriorating mental health, and how the world he lives in takes a toll on him. Think about it; Real life chihuahuas are psychotic enough, and the world of Ren & Stimpy would be a literal nightmare to live in.
I found the idea on a comment on a YouTube review of APC, and how this kind of gory psychological horror would be expected from an adult version of the Ren & Stimpy Show, which I would probably be down for. In the first season, Ren is slightly calmer and saner. The second season on the other hand would introduce Ren’s murderous psychotic fits (In the Army, Stimpy’s Fan Club, Sven Höek). Just pick up and go from there; keep everything else the same for 90’s nostalgia points, but as the show progresses, even with the format/setting changing, Ren becomes increasingly violent and sinister. Stimpy and the other characters would begin to see Ren for who he is, who by the end of the series, would become the animal-mutilating, irredeemable beast that we see in Ren Seeks Help. In other words, think Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining.
