They just want to get to the scares right away without building atmosphere. Local 52 FEELS like someone showing you shit they found on old VHS tapes in their parent's attic. The others feel too overproduced.
Like, the spookiest analog horror thing I've seen in recent memory was a EMS broadcast for if the Yellowstone Supervolcano erupted. It's slow moving, builds the dread well, and the sound of air raid sirens going off when the eruption happens is an honestly good jolt, because it sinks in that nothing can be done to stop it.
