>>125862940This is a dumb way of looking at things. The internet didn't reach mass popularity until the mid/late '90s. Toys from before then weren't archived as they were released. Autists documented their own collections, promotional images, Ebay protos, etc. There is no reason you can't do the same for whatever property you're interested in. If anything, it should be easier since you could run Wikis to crowdsource info, instead of running a small fansite individually.
If you're looking for something more recent, you should have it even easier. You might find old online listings with promo photos, press releases, toy fair booth photos, etc.
