This is the dystopian aspect of Emmy's world. We see her as a person, but the humans in her world do not.

Nandroids are taught a brutally utilitarian form of ethics, which says their worth as an individual is nothing more nor less than their ability to serve humans. It's no wonder Emmy's having an emotional breakdown; her self-image is being destroyed. It's downright cruel.

I don't think Franny's going to turn on her so fast. Even if not to that extend, she know what it's like to be ostracized through no fault of her own (even if just for being late or wearing the wrong shade of blue). Emmy shared her worries with her earlier, so even if she should report it, she know that Emmy never intended for this to happen and would never have done this of her own free will.

They've all seen and done things over the years that must have changed how they see the world beyond the cold academic interpretation.
There's nothing that stop Franny from giving Emmy a way out if she think it doesn't put anyone in danger.

The Dad is lucky to not have gotten hurt

And while that is bad, it's their responsibility to report behavior like this that could hurt someone. And they didn't insinuate that she had to go into the garbage. They just said she they're happy no one got hurt, and to Emmy, they told her that she should go to Sterling to get repairs. So Molly is kinda of a Bitch, but she's just doing her job.

Franny has no reason to speak up because doing so would only make drama, and might over-exaggerate a situation

It's not like Molly doesn't care at all either, she was there to check up on Emmy when she ran into the Bathroom, so Franny probably recognizes that

And it's not like there's alot of tension between Franny and Molly, if Franny heard Molly say some stuff about Emmy, she's going to see it more like that one friend you have bad-mouthing another friend you have. It might be surprising because you'd never think they would do that.

And from what we know, Franny has NEVER heard any of the back-talk Molly has given her. Like she's never heard her comments on her being late, or her wearing a dress that had out of season colors. So hearing Molly talk like this with someone from their friend group, might be new for her.

How do you "pre-program" loyalty? A human-like mind, even a digital one, isn't a bunch of if-else statements, it's an incredibly complex web of neurons which nobody really understands how it actually works. And Nanrdoids' minds are clearly very human-like from what we can see. That's why they need to be taught just like human minds. If Sterling could produce robots with perfectly pre-programmed minds, they wouldn't need to put them in a classroom in the first place.

We haven't seen Madeline since the party. I'm pretty sure she's the forgiving type; if her parents explained to her that Emmy had a malfunction and it wasn't really her fault, Madeline wouldn't hold a ruined birthday party against her.

To be fair Ted isn't hurt, it was harmless carbonic foam.
And while she probably is/will be upset that her birthday was ruined, she probably would be even l'or eupset that Emmy have to go.
From what we've seen before, Emmy's more like a sister than a simple caretaker to her.
Doubly so if she get explained that it wasn't intentional.

She seemed pretty upset with how outmodes are treated.
But then again, she's just a kid, she's not above emotional fits.

I like to think that Sterling had some care for the robots that would be outmodded or break down. It'd be a nice twist from the greedy CEO that junks all his old models the second they glitch their speech.

It could be based off his past as a watchmaker, and he learned that you shouldn't just throw a piece of fine craftsmanship in the trash because it's gear jams up or the little arm is slow. You do your damned good best to fix it and make it better, or at least try to find another use for it.

Sterling would even have had an idea that involved keeping a whole bunch of veteran machinists and android designers on board as part of a program to work on outdated or damaged robots, but when he died, the company of younger businessman scrapped the idea and put in this idea of "dangerous outmodes."

Perhaps another idea is that Emmy runs away herself. Ted and Angela don't seem like they're readying the trash can for Emmy, they're concerned understandably but it's not like both of them were furious or anything.

Emmy would probably misunderstand a conversation she overheard and, under guilt from the party, think they're ashamed of her and consider her a danger. She'd probably run away and wind up in the seedier parts of town.

The way this new comic reads, Sterling might be able to fix her just fine but her reputation is so ruined that the Delaire parents elect not to take her back anyway. I'd imagine Sterling goes under a different name, probably to keep himself private and prevent some kind of scandal. When you're an old guy with a little girl, you don't want to be answering questions to nosy journalists all day.

He probably wouldn't take back his company- since Emmy and Darcy aren't exactly a full-fledged fighting force- but Emmy inspires him to create a clinic where outmodes and other broken-down robots can come, get fixed up, and find a place in society.

Retail or even menial work would be a pretty good alternative for those that aren't rated to work with children.

Well, yeah, because nobody actually knows how to make a sentient digital brain from scratch. We don't even fully know how our own brains work, so how would you go about creating one yourself? But all the other robots we've seen seems to have a semblance of free will, at least ot some extend.
Outmodes wouldn't be a thing otherwise.

If that was the case, there wouldn't have been any free-willed machines anywhere near the public, let alone some as advenced as nandroids. Having them free to obey orders by interpretting them is a lot more efficient than having things spelled out beforehand.

I think you can add fonts to the MSpaint folder itself, like where it's installed at. There should be a place to stick font files and a right-click option to install/unzip/whatever.

Hell, even if this does sound a little cliche, Darcy is the daughter of Sterling and Emily Pryce, both of whom bonded over their genuine care and concern for their Nandroid creations. Darcy would still have some concern, but she hides it behind being a rough, street-wise kid.

And at this point it's easier and less risky to just teach the nandroids that they should do it by themselves, or they'd have to go and check everytime a nandroid do something "weird" while just playing with her kids or doing whatever when nobody's around.

Imagine having to treck to the nearest phone because an autonomous program out of your control interpreted a nandroid failing a dance move (or missspoke, or whatever) as her being defective, despite you knowing full well that it's absolutely nothing.
It'd get old real fast and it's going to impact their work.
Might even tarnish their owner's visoin, because if they do that to their own peers, what's to say they don't do that each time they see their owners doing something questionably legal?

Only if it's not a false positive. If a nandroid with automatic fire-detection falsely detected a fire in a movie theater of the day and couldn't correct herself despite knowing her subroutine was wrong, she could cause a panic and kill loads of people if they crush at the door.

TLO's a lot like Dom early on, Avery (like Emmy) is his one massive online success and his cashcow in a way, both market them as their main attractions ("home of the tombot") so if he wanted to do anything drastic or lore changing with her he runs the risk of peeving off a lot of that follower base, so he just gives scraps that leave people to do just enough on their own with without making anything offensive or radical, though even then he could just do that with others of his like Bobby since anons seem a lot more muted in their love for her. spoiler Which is what hapenned in Wendyanon's story, she get shot in the face, and she have to hold things in place as she bleed off brain goop, but the main part is mostly fine so she keep going. She then get shot again, but in non-vital parts of the body so it doesn't do much beyond staggering her and spilling fluids and redundent components.

Honestly I think it'd depend on how they're made. Leg joints need to be quite sturdy to handle walk, or even running or jumping (moving like that put a lot of strain on knee the joints, up to 1.5 times your resting weight, and 15 times when jumping)
Also you have to worry about her strugling and trying to dodge.
Even if you hit and break it, it probably isn't as crippling as on a human (beyond pain, I mean). depending, it could outright snap and have the lower leg connected only by wires and hoses, of just get bent and seize up, letting her limp around like on a peg leg.

It's tricky to predict how it'd hold up honestly, it's not exactly heavy duty equipment but bipedal motion need them to have some level of sturdyness.

To be fair we don't really know that, they could be twice as heavy as a woman of similar build, or even more. I don't think we've ever seen nandroids not standing or sitting on something solid.
