Babs didn't reboot due to low sales, it was DC fucking her over in the long run. Simone run was going strong sales-wise, but due to Simone being a complete cancer to work with, they changed her for Stewart. You may not like the direction but there was nothing wrong with the book sales-wise. That's why DC continues to be so insistant on this whole Burnside thing, it was actually selling really well. Then Rebirth came out and EVERYTHING got rebooted again, and Babs got stuck with shit writer that seriously tanked the sales. DC actually was smart enough to ditch Larson before she drives the ongoing to the ground and replaced her with Scott who revitalized the series, made Batgirl sell again AND the books started gaining positive reviews. And then DC convenientely cancelled it just in time for IF where everything got rebooted AGAIN.
Batgirl betting rebooted over and over again has nothing to do with her "working" or something, the book was just really fucking unlucky with the writers and editorial.

Not quite. Cass was torn on it because Steph is her friend and teamed up with Steph right after but Steph fucked up on that team up causing Cass to think Bruce might be right. Steph was actually a rare point where Cass didn't just accept Bruce's view.

What stands out to me as a difference (and I would posit is the reason Steph harbors much less resentment towards Cass later on), is that when Tim lashed out, verbally or otherwise, it was usually in anger. With Cass, never. She never yelled at Steph once, and when she did attack her, it was either protective instinct or because Steph literally asked her to. Even when Steph was angry with her, which was more than a few times, Cass never returned fire. In that way, she might have been more “coddling” from Steph’s perspective.

Castelluci shit the bed after two promising issues. Scott did some good work, even though I'm not fond of some of her story elements, but was screwed pretty hard by editorial. Larson was basically filler and had a tendency to forget she wasn't writing a kids book. Stewart/Fletcher had people taking issue with how they characterized Babs and the shift in tone and setting, but it was also a full reboot of the title. It also changed the setting, primary cast, tone, artstyle, villains, and civilian life. Full reboot is an overstatement, but it was definitely a reboot. Also aside from having Alysia show up it tended to take more of its continuity from from BoP, not Simone's Batgirl. I think the best way to describe it is as a prelude to what happened to a lot of titles with Rebirth.

The main issue with both DC and fanboys is that they want to play favorites. If you're going to do a Batgirls book it has to be a trio book about equals. Personally I think writers are missing out on the obvious wrinkle in that none of the Batgirls can really go all out all the time. They're not idle rich orphans with some mental issues, they have jobs, families, and social lives that need to be maintained for their own well-being. Babs, Cass, and Steph should be a mutually reinforcing support network for each other.

EVERYTHING about this Batgirls thing is the meta-thing and nothing else. Because prior to IF, there is no indication that Cass and Steph ever wanted to be Batgirls in-universe, Babs never had and inclination to pass on the mantle and there is no reason why the three of them should even be on such close terms because prior to IF Cass and Steph barely interacted with Babs. It's all out-of-universe shenanigans that make no sense in-universe, due to editorial mandate. Unless you want to blame everything on Death Metal memories which is another meta thing.

You don’t read Cass and Steph, clearly. Both of them were moved by seeing themselves as Batgirls in ‘Tec, and Cass had a whole fucking arc about it in Outsiders where Bruce had to literally go “I haven’t given you Batgirl because…” because there was growing tension and hurt over the matter.

Spoiler became a symbol of an entire era she wanted to forget in her Batgirl run, but even prior to that, she disliked *being* Spoiler. The closer she got to the family, the more it became apparent acceptance through joining that legacy was what she really wanted. It’s the natural trajectory for her character, given her disdain for her own legacy with Cluemaster. Her and Cass are much the same in that way, both viewing the Bat as a redemptive second chance.
