My problem is that the X-Men always operate outside the law. I get vigilantes, but they operate a school. Utopia was the excuse of Norman Osborn, but X-Men have this continual stupid rise in stakes.
You’d think world Gov’ts would want to do homegrown Supersoldiers and instead of pissing off people who can invert gravity, control rates of decay, or cause those fish to swim up your urethra. The entire concept and allegory is retarded, if Marvel finally just said that they are the result of the Celestials and not natural and put a mandate saying that you can’t say what the purpose of it was, but possibly nefarious it could work.
Every fucking writer has them cut ties with their families like a cult, Hickman X-Men is just the most overt about it. They never see consequences for their behavior either. X-Force is never exposed, you never have non-mutant friends getting disgusted by their actions. The worst is that’s in-universe there is no third position. There is barely two positions.
I’d love for Marvel to go in the direction that mutants really are just people who have powers. Have Emma and Magneto brag about being superior, have Kitty complain about oppression despite never being oppressed personally, Beak and Angel be on the fence about taking a cure, and then a fuck load of others who see their powers as burdens. Have kids who have powers that are geared 99% towards fighting and they don’t want to fight, athletes who mutate and can’t play sports, and people who’s family shoot at Hydra and the Purifers. Have Scott be called out for being a cunt when he brings a telepath to peace talks.
