Derrick J Wyatt said that he was never a fan of Gwen. He always found her to be a "Miss Know-It-All" with no sense of humor. This is why he gave her so few appearances in Omniverse, alongside making her ugly.
He also gave her more moments where she gets humiliated for comedic effect, so she wouldn't be such a Mary Sue.
