>>124290373yknow this made me think
with this in mind it kinda explains the way female characters, both perfect and flawed, are done
women wanna be in control
a character needs to be seen as attractive, but she cant look attractive
she has to be portrayed as sexy without BEING sexy
women often seek to control how people VIEW them, the very basis of their existance, not just who they are but how society sees em, and thats more important than BEING someone
and knowing that i wonder if thats also the reason why theyre not as funny- they wanna be funny in a way thats *controlled*
they dont want humor at their own expense. they wanna BE funny, and thats it. they dont wanna commit to the humor (and with most of the best humor being at the expense of someone else. hell, even when its not, i firmly believe the best comedy comes from people who can take it and dish it, and dont get easily offended, and take what comes their way and roll with it. it doesnt matter what KINDA comedy they do, it just takes a certain personality, and 'controlling' isnt one of the required personality types), they just wanna be perceived as funny and they want full control over that perception. thats why they get mad when you dont perceive em the right way.
they wanna be quirky and different but in a way thats "cute". when a woman makes fun of herself, she hasnt truly figured out what makes her, herself, and then made a jab about that. she either just described a virtue as if it were a flaw, and by doing so not only expects you to see her as funny and casual and willing to take a jab, but also highlight said virtue and further control how you view her.
or alternatively she found a flaw in herself (or adopted it, because they often change their persona to affect how theyre viewed), a flaw that she deemed innocent and cute enough to be just enough of a negative character trait thats reasonable to joke about, and then proceeds to utilize that as her mandatory joke fodder.
