I don’t care if a character is gay, bi, pan, trans, etc. What I care is if they serve a purpose to the story. Queer characters whose personalities are just being queer are bad characters.
It’s why I stopped watching Chilling Adventures of Sabrina around season 3. Theo brought nothing to the story other than a girl identifying as a boy and being accepted on the basketball team, which he only got on the team because of Sabrina’s magic. Season 3 introduced a male love interest to Theo and that’s when I lost interest. It’s annoying that they kept focusing on this character who brought nothing to the story other than his gender/sexual identity. They showed that Theo seemed to be a spirit medium or was able to talk to his ancestor, but it didn’t really lead to anything.
I think representation matters, but it’s annoying that it’s the only aspect of that character. I hate when it’s done to straight characters too, like being a frat bro or a girly girl.
I wish the show focused more on the actual supernatural shit, like the Mormon-themed witch hunters or the ice cream truck driver who sacrificed innocent children every 7 years to keep his soul from being dragged to hell.
