You can explain it, but you may not have the time in the story to do it. Why was Sue Storm's brother not white like her? The production crew were incredulous about this when asked, until it became apparent that it NEEDED to be answered because thats how reality works. I have a feeling they never were going to address this, because the line explaining it is a throw away line AND its a smug subversion "Acktually, SUE is the adopted one, take that racist!"

Could batgirl be a black girl? yes. I just dont understand why the character can look one way for nearly 50 fucking years, and STILL be a white ginger in comics, but her first big screen debut they would cast a person that isnt a white ginger, even after they have already race swapped so many white heroes and characters already. It's just hollow, transparent stunt casting.
