>muh sincerity>muh uncle benUncle Ben has an indelible impact on Peter's psyche but he's directly brought up like twice in the Ditko run.
I think people have an issue separating their own memories of it with the actual 'text' and romanticize the Raimi movies. I've seen discussions where it seems people are only praising the Raimi movies out of frustration with the MCU. So they consider the Raimi movies to be the antithesis to everything they don't like about the MCU.
It's the opposite with old comics, but the same effect. People have an idea in their heads of 60s comics as campy and one-dimensional. So when they discuss adaptations, it's always in with this air that comics are inferior, and hard to adapt, and that if an superhero movie is even decent, it's an achievement because they were able to adapt something so one-dimensional and childish.
But when you actually go read 60s Marvel, and give them the time of day and read them as stories, they're just fine. More irreverence, wit, sarcasm, and more three-dimensional than people insist. You can even see a lot of things in 60s Marvel that were directly adapted to the MCU.
but /co/ doesn't read comics so i don't expect them to understand context or nuance
