You can kind of see the logic to it.
It's a TV show, so they need a powerset that's easier to do. As well, her embiggening powers make her feel totally disconnected from the rest of the Marvel family. Also, Mr Fantastic is coming, and they don't want him to get overshadowed by Kamala.

I hate it and I think it's a terrible idea, but I can see the logic behind it.

I don't really understand why they would do that, powers have generally been kept fairly accurate so far.

I'm just trying to think about when they have changed powers before. I know Wanda's powers were fairly different from the comics until WandaVision but generally still in the same ballpark of powers. Killian was given powers but who gives a fuck about Killian? Mantis had several powers removed but a few core powers remained. Star-Lord has Ego powers in the second movie but loses them quite quickly.

I honestly can't think of that many and the ones I can think of aren't that different.

That might be because she's totally disconnected from the rest of the Marvel family until they reveal something about her inheriting the specific genes from a vell scientist that helped create the Inhumans.

Unfortunate reminder that part of the process involved Kree genes.
