Astroboy 2009 wouldn't be a thing if it wasn't for Flushed Away. Director, producer, line producer, executive producer and animation director from AB came straight out of FA

Imagi got the rights to make an Astroboy film in late 2006. Flushed Away was one of the few /co/ films of that year to get positive reviews, since it was a pretty bad year for animation otherwise. As such, they decided to hire people from this movie in particular to helm Astroboy

Sega forced the devs to rush the game out for the 15th anniversary of the franchise (and right before the holiday season), it probably could have been great if they waited until 2007 to release it instead of going on such an arbitrary deadline.

Maybe in terms of control and polish but there's no amount of time that could have fixed the hilariously bad story, the terrible way the game is structured, and the bizarre use of multiple characters and gameplay styles

I like how Bowers didn't shoehorn romance in either movie. It's more likely that Roddy and Rita / Astro and Cora had feelings for each other, but it's left ambiguous. Most 2000s /co/ films always had forced romance ( Robots being one of the worst examples )

Is that supposed to be a benefit? I took a peek at his bibliography and none of his novels are considered particularly good or noteworthy. In fact I couldn't fine anything about them beyond the names. Noir is a crowded genre, writing something that you would only find in bargain bins and yard sales doesn't warrant praise or makes him particularly suited to writing a bastardized version of a beloved Japanese icon.

It's bad, there's no 'or' to it. It's not a good Astro Boy movie since it spits on the source material and it's not a good standalone movie since it never gained any traction with critics or audiences outside of China and their taste in movies has always been horrible. Trading Places was a good movie but that was mostly because of Dan Akroyd and Eddie Murphy were close to the peak of their careers then.

That notion doesn't make any sense. An aggregate of reviewers will not all review a film better or worse purely on the window it is released with other movies. At least not a difference so great that it can make a bad movie like Astro Boy that was critically panned be considered good or a good movie that was received well critically like Flushed Away be considered bad. When it comes to Sonic games, i only care about the gameplay, soundtrack and presentation. Couldn't care less about the stories, characterization or whether the writing is serious or comedic. Storytelling isn't where Sonic Team's stengths lie ( i do appreciate their in-game cutscenes finally becoming passable from Unleashed onwards, since they were always average at best before )

My gut tells me it was supposed to be a Finding Nemo joke, but Finding Nemo pretty importantly takes place in Australia, while Flushed Away pretty importantly takes place in London.
