>>122365495Alright, I just finished the Book, so I'm gonna give my thoughts before reading the thread and letting it poison my opinions of it.
Overall, it was a very safe season. There's nothing wrong with that, but that also meant it was never going to reach the heights of Book 2. However, I would rank it higher than Book 1, so it's probably the second best season. The, what was it called, Decent? The hand monster was a bit of an asspull, they should have just had Min-Gi and Ryan fight organically and then use, like, a Ghom or something as danger. And Ryan falling into a depressive state because he thought about abandoning Min-Gi was a great plot hook that didn't go anywhere and wasn't given the weight it deserved, but maybe that's just because of time constraints. That's the kind of thing you use for big drama, and they kind of just wave it away.
But enough about the bad. These two definitely had a good dynamic going on, there was some great jokes, for the most part, them overcoming their problems was interesting. And the first episode is honestly a better pilot for the show than the actual pilot.
The finale was definitely the weakest part though. You can't just break your own rules for dramatic effect, Owen! If the two numbers are the same number, you can't just
have Min-Gi hit zero by himself for no reason! They're the same, if one hits zero they both do. And having the final, character building revelation be by Kes, who was only shown having an apology problem once, removes the focus from the two main characters and their own growth. Especially when you set up previously that Kes has an obsession with pleasing people instead, as indicated in the party car. Learn to focus, c'mon.Having it be set in the past, for no real reason, was a little odd though. I guess it's to help set up a potential book 5 about Amelia? But who really wants a book about Amelia?
Also, Ryan was definitely willing to fuck that cat.
