>>122321439>I think the real damage comes from John becoming the face of creator driven cartoons. He's the worst possible choice. His constant fuckups, unprofessionalism and horrifying personal life has done nothing but discredit the idea of giving creators free reign over their shows. Not creators, but studios. That was John's everlasting stain on this industry. The people over at Spumco worked hard, but John K's fuckups, his inability to deliver on schedule and refusing to edit a cartoon (Man's Best Friend) that the studio paid more than a million on, not only led to his firing but to Spumco's as well. Artists soon quit, went on to work on other 90s shows, some stayed with John, and others like Bob Camp were offered a chance to head the production of the show over at Nickelodeon's brand spanking new animation studio: Games Animation. Games Animation would later become Nickelodeon Animation studios. This was a unique thing at the time because for the longest time studios produced shows for tv networks or syndication, networks did not have their own built-in animation studios. But after the Spumco debacle, Nick felt an outside studio couldn't be trusted so they instead formed their own studio to better keep control of the production. Now EVERY network does this, and I believe it hurts the industry, it leads to saturation and stagnation. Why? Because every studio has its own unique style or styles, just look at E,E,E, it looked so different than every other show on CN. The big irony is the "cal-arts" style (a phrase John K himself created) is probably the result of this. Don't you think it's weird that the Cal-Art's style is only prominent in California Network TV studios, like Disney, Nick, or CN? We need more independent studios making shows, it creates a lot more variety in terms of the animated content, but thanks to John K's actions networks dont want that
