What led to the New52 Wildstorm titles to become so mediocre or garbage? How did they mess up so bad? I get that the New52 launch was just a shitshow but still... The Wildstorm part of the launch is especially egregious.

Inconsistent direction for starters. The biggest was when there was going to be some kind of Daemonite-related crossover between a few titles and something turned into a mess. Then the characters just quietly disappeared after a while.

There's also the problem that Wildstorm didn't seem to fit that well with DC the way the Charlton, Fawcett, and Quality Comics stuff did, for a lot of reasons.

they didn't know what to write them as, they could simply had been once again black ops in the dc universe, but to write them effectively they would need someone with ideas and dc has none.

But even moreso than those. Like even with the changes imposed on the acquired characters readers accepted Black Adam as an anti-hero, Blue Beetle as Booster Gold's friend, and so on. I can't think of a Wildstorm thing part of the main DCU that really had that kind of impact.

You couldn't actually do stuff to the main characters that really fucked them up. I remember reading the Six-Billion-Dollar Bastard battle and I was was so pissed off. But in a good way. It was just odd seeing th entire team get their ass handed to them. But under DC you have to maintain the Status Quo and that is Superman beat everybody, Batman is God, and Wonder Woman is only badass when she's out of the panel or if you need to remember oh yeah, women do stuff too!

The Authority doesn't really work in a world where the good guys win, not because they're supposed to, but because they're really good people trying to do their best!

The world where the Authority comes from, lets them exist in a way that says, sure they're bad but it's not like they're the worst.
