>>121252542Fuck me, this. Kamala is such a fun hero when she's just doing her own teenage-hero-tier stuff around her home city, with her friends showing up in supporting roles. The biggest problem with the main run is that they never went back to the stuff that everyone originally liked about the character - it went straight to a cosmic threat arc, then we had over the top dramatics for an issue or two about her father having a deadly illness, then we went into the Outlawed crossover stuff. We didn't get to go back to fun heroing antics around highschool, instead they just fucking nuked the highschool from orbit and ran with dramatics.
>>121252647Champions Kamala is fine, it's just that it's not the "real" Kamala. Champions has added so many heroes into the roster (even the original roster was kinda bloated) that they can't really give any individual much personality focus. And it hurts everything by making it feel like being in the Champions is her full time job, as opposed to a tertiary (or tetrary??) engagement (highschool, family, local superheroing, Champions superheroing).
>>121252735>namely leaning too hard into simplicity and not having Kamala use her powers creatively.Even this didn't really come across well, because for the most part it just involved her making her hands into giant maces rather than giant fists. She has pulled her "flatten her body out like a sheet" thing a few more times too, but I'm pretty sure that originated in Wilson's run too. It'd be cool if they tried to properly push the creativity with her powers, rather than just a token nod to doing-the-same-stuff-but-with-slightly-more-variety.
>>121252906Mike has always felt like an afterthought character to me, I get the impression that she was never really supposed to be anything but a several-issue background character to make Kamala jealous. Then they decided to keep her around and join her into the Scooby-Squad ... so there is this sort of awkward element to her inclusion.
