It’s a nostalgia/race thing, they see John as their childhood, even though he frankly was nowhere near important to the series as a whole, and the most boring member, and it’s easier to hate Hal for being white

my childhood bias states that I prefer John and Guy, But I grew up realising that John was pretty bland, I still love guy though, then again, maybe Brave and the Bold gives a wrong take on Guy Gardner

I don't have 5 specific moments, but he helped rebuild Coast City and was also referenced constantly by Johns and Snyder. John being an architect gets referenced almost as much as him being a military man.

Seniority is reflecting back and realizing that despite being populated by heroes whose only limits are their imagination and willpower, the Green Lantern Corps makes for some of the most boring and unimaginative stories in the entire DC canon
