To finish the degree, you were required to design an aircraft as part of a thesis. We were provided with a variety of engines and the relevant data, but everything else had to be our own work.
After four months of work, I had a model sitting in the University's wind tunnel. The way it was set up, physical access to the tunnel required you to climb into the thing around the corner from where the controls were. Because I didn't want to have to shut the entire system down and then start it back up again, I asked this guy(let's call him Sam, because that was his name) to watch my computer and make sure no one turned it on while I was adjusting the model.
Imagine my surprise when I find out that Sam has submitted a thesis virtually identical to mine, complete with the same experimental data. The tutor running the show pulls us both into the office to ask what happened. Luckily, anyone who wants to use the wind tunnel has to book it in advance, my name is on the list, Sam's isn't. The data had to have come from me. The prick doubles down and claims that I sold it to him. Meeting ends, with us both being told it will be investigated further.
A week later, I get pulled into another meeting with the head of the engineering school and we are both informed that they've caught Sam out on his bachelor's thesis too. He cracks, admits to the entire thing, and is stupid enough to admit to doing it a third time when asked. The head tells him that he automatically fails his Master's. Without a thesis, he doesn't pass, and they won't have him back to try again. He also tells Sam, that the school are seriously considering removing his Bachelor's from him. I'm sitting very quietly in the corner and trying not to laugh. Eventually, the staff remember that I'm in the room, and I'm told to leave.
