>>120541052the problem with artists like these is that their self worth is entirely wrapped up in the perceived quality of their art. someone gives them valid criticism and they take it personally, as if they're being attacked. the mature thing to do is acknowledge the criticism, and either agree with it and work to improve, or disagree with it and know exactly why you're choosing to ignore it.
e.g.
>your anatomy is a bit messed up, i can't figure out what size people are supposed to beagree: fair enough, i'm still perfecting my art style. i'll work on the anatomy so it makes more sense.
disagree: that's actually intentional, the lack of certainty in the character design ties in to the narrative themes of the story. it might improve or degrade depending on the context, so please keep that in mind if you do keep reading.
>your writing is too dark and depressing, it makes me not want to read anymoreagree: yeah i'm trying to write serious topics in a comedy series, so sometimes i go a bit too far in the wrong direction. i'll try to soften the blows a bit in how i present things, or maybe avoid anything too serious.
disagree: i'm trying to write a complex story about serious topics, even though there are comedy elements too. sorry but sometimes things are going to get dark, that's the story i'm trying to tell.
either way, acting like someone is just trying to tear you down when they dare to question your artistic vision is a terrible trait. mature artists know how to deal with criticism.
