1) look at MORE than 1-2 different sources to copy
2) can raise money via hollywood, big business, kickstarters, etc without pointing to the last big thing
3) take a risk for a flop that you can leave in the dirt without some crazy liability coverage raising costs long after
Why do you think Disney, king of taking old idea's and making them theirs, has lost its way somewhat? No risk takers, financial "GUARANTEES REQUIRED FOR ANY STOCKS" formula's, buy up old properties and make "NEW".
Every story copies from other stories, the sad fact is no one is taking risks on those copies of either 1)OLDER stories being copied(no new fairy tales/etc being done unless its "DIVERSITY/OTHER MARKETS+HOME MARKETS"
2)HAS TO SELL GREAT BOX OFFICE both here AND OTHER MARKETS(lots of differences for different languages/cultures needed)
3)Therefore no mixing of different stories/styles/narratives, which Gravity Falls obviously is.
ONLY RERUNS, REIMAGININGS OF PREVIOUS STORIES, REMAKES, SEQUELS, aka we live in a world with OVER THREE BEGINNING AKA SPIDER MAN 1! Movies!!!
