The days grow colder, the nights grow longer... It's time! The /co/ Holiday Cheer thread is back in town! Storytimes, streams, traditions, food, contests, puzzles, gifts and of course /co/mradery and cheer all around! So, grab some cocoa, turn on the music of the season, and get comfy while we hang out and get into the holiday spirit!
As previous years, share your Amazon wishlist and some random Anon may purchase a holiday gift for you. If you frequent the threads, please don't spam your list number, once per thread is good enough. Just because you've posted your list doesn't mean someone will purchase you a gift. It's random how Anons will choose who to buy for, but please take a look through some of the lists and see if there's anyone/thing you want to gift.
To share a list click on “Send lists to others” in the top right of the wishlist, then click “View only”. If you use the “View and Edit” Anyone using that code will be able to add and remove items from you list.
If you are using one of the international versions of Amazon please let us know when you post your list.

For years now I've had this tradition of watching Home Alone, Gremlins and Die Hard on Christmas Day (as well as Home Alone 2 and Die Hard 2 on Christmas Day 2: Boxing Day), but at this point I know these movies by heart and I was thinking of maybe checking out some other ones. So what would you suggest? What Christmas movies do YOU like?

It's time for Crypto Prize Puzzle #3!! The rules are simple. These are replacement puzzles that are concealing a Christmas quote/reference/lyric. While some of my puzzles are very difficult, I try to build all of them to break down with one or two good assumptions. Solve it faster than anyone else to win a fabulous prize! When you solve the puzzle, spoiler the solution so that people who want to keep playing can do so. Include your wishlist so that I can reward you. One prize per wishlist. Christmas Chronicles 2 came out this year which was alright, but not as good as the first in my opinion. This year's Fatman was good. I recently discovered The Man Who Invented Christmas and quite enjoyed it. Krampus is another good one. I like watching the Mickey Christmas specials: Christmas Carol, Once Upon, and Twice Upon a Christmas. All of the old Rankin/Bass specials. I also quite like Arthur Christmas.

Hopefully, the standard lab test will also be negative - in the meantime, rest, liquids, etc. And ...
>Unemployment might work I would still file; you get that one-week waiting period. You also get to WITHDRAW or cancel the claim as well. At the very minimum, filing will waste your waiting week this week. No harm no foul.
I would also look into workers comp because that doesn't impact whether the accident/injury/illness happens AT WORK, only that it keeps you from working. But state plans do differ on this you may just live in a state where this crap is in employer's favors, not the wage slaves.
Either way, and deciding what is best for you and your situation, good luck!

Super-Duper Sunday, Studs! December 20th, at least this year, marks the fourth - and last - Sunday of Advent, meaning that we can officially say that Christmas is ALMOST here. So let's focus on some positives for a change. On December 20th, 1946 "It's a Wonderful Life" hit theaters, eventually becoming a Christmas classic and, according to many, one of the greatest movies ever made. Not bad for a box office flop. Meanwhile, on December 20th, 1971, after witnessing the shitstorm that was the Biafran War, a group of French doctors founded Médecins Sans Frontières, or Doctors Without Borders, a humanitarian aid organisation that only recently, after almost 50 years, got heir first controversy. And finally, on December 20th, 2019, the United States Space Force was founded. Because say what you will about Trumpkins, but "we're going back to space" is something I think everybody can get behind. Also, it took them almost a year to come up with the name for the members.

Calendar Man
Magnificent Monday, Mortals! It's December 21st, so let's talk about firsts! First of all, let's go way back to December 21st, 1620, when the Pilgrims of the Mayflower first set foot on American soil at what is now known as Plymouth Rock. Fast-forwarding almost 300 years, it was on December 21st, 1913, that the New York World published the first ever crossword puzzle, the "FUN's Word-Cross" by Arthur Wynne. In /co/-related news, December 21st, 1937 marked the first showing of "Snow White an the Seven Dwarfs", Disney's first feature-length animated movie. And finally, on December 21st, 1968, Apollo 8 was launched, soon thereafter becoming the first manned spacecraft to leave low Earth orbit and reach another celestial body, the Moon - although they didn't land on it, just orbited it or a while.

Transcendent Tuesday, Turkeys! this year, December 22nd is the first day after the Winter Solstice. So unlike what it says in the OP, days will start getting longer again! And since it's symbolic of change and rebirth, let's focus on throwing out the old and bringing in the new! And when it comes to things that will be remembered years ahead, it's usually about new rule. And there was quite a lot of that in the Year of Four Emperors, 69 AD (nice) - you see, after Nero's suicide in 68, there was a bit of a hubbub about who should rule after him. So whenever a new Emperor got the crown, he wouldn't be long for the world. The third in line, Vitellius, took over in April, but soon a conflict began between his supporters and the legions of the eastern provinces, which backed Vespasian. The funny thing is, ol' Vitti was ready to abdicate the throne and even had some successful peace talks, but his supporters wouldn't let him. So Vesp-guy's forces attacked and took over Rome, going through as many as 50,000 citizens, and Vitellius, through little to no fault of his own, was executed on December 22nd, 69. Now the only question is, how close to home did I just hit for our American anons. We jump a little bit into the future, but we're staying in Rome, because on December 22nd, 401 Pope Innocent I, later a Saint, was elected. I might've talked about this last year, when I was going through patron saints of each day, but he's known for being the only pope to succeed his father on the papal throne. And that sure is something that requires a double take. But it turns out it's just one of the many sources that suggests that. Let's fast-forward to modern times - on December 22nd, 1990, a year after a certain dictator from a certain other socialist country tried to run from protestors (this is called "foreshadowing") in Poland Lech Walesa got elected for the office of President, officially ending the communist era in the country.
