I've started a couple of the threads so far, no matter how cozy and wholesome I try to keep it they'll just devolve but in the end I hope we have some nice moments with each other.

The settings and characters are just so cozy and often more grounded than I'd expect. It and the characters are capable of great depth and shallowness all the time.

>What are your favorites episodes and moments so far?
I loved the Twig episode and the David, Victoria, bellkeeper, Kaisa and Tilda episodes. Too many moments to count. I enjoyed the feeling of the Christmas episode but those are usually my favorite with animated shows.

>Favorite characters and/or creatures?
Nisse, fake Nisse, David, Bellkeeper, Hilda, Twig, Johanna, All elves, Raven, Kaisa, Mara and too many others. I really love the water spirits.

>What are your thoughts on S2?
I still liked the first season more but I also like this one. It'll grow on me with viewings.

>What are you thoughts on the newer additions like Bellkeeper, Erik, Gerda, the Librarian, etc?
I love each of them. I preferred comic Erik but if they were going to make him an antagonist they should have made him a lil more competent and threatening.

After stone forest I think Mountain will be pretty faithful for better or worse. I'm hoping the Mara return.

I mean, you don't put your show on hiatus for years and then expect the fanbase to be all right. It's been so long that I can hardly remember what I enjoyed about it the most. I haven't even watched the new season yet because my interest had worn off.

It's surprisingly well-written for a children's cartoon. Sub-plots and adventures are mostly never forgotten, there's a lot of clever, subtle foreshadowing and characters have flaws but are likeable all the same (except for Trevor and his gang, little shits).

Hard to say but I think the first 3 episodes of season one. I'm sad the Great Raven didn't make a return in season 2.

The trolls. There's a lot of intrigue surrounding them.

2. S2. Time travel & Twig episodes
3. Alfur, Joanna, Twig
4. It captured the first season pretty well. Good 2nd season
5. Witches seemed like a joke, Bellkeeper is good.
6. same thing that happens in the books mostly.

The main thing I wanted from this season that I didn't get was having Joanna go on more adventures with Hilda. Instead, Hilda left her biggest ally at home.

I like it because I do. My favorite episodes have been the Twig one and the season 2 fine. My favorite creatures are the Wofs. I think season 2 is much better than season 1, damn shame the green teenagers didn't show up. I liked the Librarian and Erik. Idk about the s3 thing, I hope it's good but that cliffhanger asks for a lot.

I liked the insolence of office thingy shown throughout.

Well there's always gonna be arguments when it comes to adults discussing cartoons. All in all though it's a great show. I really loved that the magic is all in Swedish, rather than Latin or some gibberish like usual. And all the Scandinavian folklore is just awesome to have explored. Can't wait to tell my niece and nephew all about Gryla the ogress and her yule lads. Bella definitely needs to be given more singing opportunities. That girl is a real treasure.

Completely right, I just meant it was arguing to the point mods nuked threads. The scandinavian folklore and aesthetic is probably my favorite part of Hilda as a whole it's all just very nice.

So I like the lore and the setting but I'm not liking any of the characters.
Hilda is a reckless brat that sees nothing wrong with lying to her mother or getting her friends into incredibly dangerous situations, she doesn't learn from her mistakes but gets handled victories anyway, future Hilda seemed to have her shit together but they killed her Immediately, present Hilda didn't really mind.
Frida is your typical perfectionist. And that's it, she had one of the worst motives for dumping her friends to then hang with their bullies, it's never explained how she even came in contact with them or why. It ended hurting her character a lot, she now has magical powers because, which I don't think it helps her character but the plot convenience.
David is... useless?, he literally does nothing. If he's supposed to be comic relief then it's not landing for me, the bug thing could have been explored but it was dropped for just one gag, the episode where he is supposed to learn something gets his mind erased and, he's just there. Imo him being the one who learns magic could have make things much more interesting, have your magic shenanigans but behind a character that's hesitates going into dangerous situations can make things more fun to get around.
Alfur (Alpha?) is... inoffensive? I don't dislike him desu but he's kind of an stickler and I feel like he's was supposed to be the prudence behind Hilda's recklessness but I don't see him doing much aside from using the elves, his episode was one of the weakest too.
Joanna is the worrywart parent she has the right to be upset at her daughter for lying to her but she's not giving Hilda any chance to explain this has been a cycle that keeps repeating but it's not developing her character any further
Twig.Didn't even gave his family a chance they waited for him and he dumped them a minute later, I think a couple episodes without him just to see how Hilda deal's with and then him coming back with new abilities would have been nice

I guess it helps that with the show being on a streaming platform like Neflix, it has a lot more leeway with showing and discussing themes like death, loneliness, and showing the melancholic nature of Hilda’s world. Plus the graphic novels are a less explorative and more story driven.

1. It’s very comfy yet has some surprisingly mature themes in it that most other shows of this type usually don’t touch on
2. For Season 2, the deer fox and not-Christmas ones. Kraken one is an honourable mention
3. Think all characters serve their purpose in their roles and are all mostly fun. David is my favourite in the basis that he was basically me when I was 10-11 years old.
4. Was pretty good. Cliffhanger makes me want the movie and the potential S3
5. They’re all fine. Wish we’d seen more of Bellkeeper though. Casual Checkov’s-cucumber sandwich almost guarantees he is Hilda’s dad.
6. Mountain King will probably stay closer to the books than S1 or S2 ever did, but I’ve got a feeling there will be a part where Frida and David also become trolls
BONUS: some of the fan art people have done has been surprisingly good for a community that is relatively small. Pic related was done by an anon last night that, to me, is cute yet sad at the same time. Don’t know if they’re here now but they’re awesome.

As some anons have previously said, the show more or less copies the book’s plot lines but also still makes time for hijinks, and I reckon the movie will do the same. Plus, it’s the only way I can see them making Frida and David relevant because else-wise the apparent B-plot regarding them doesn’t really matter and would kind of waste the effort put into the film.

Hilda/frida was very odd. Season 1 did enough of showing that Hilda was very specific in her skill set. She wasn't good in classes and couldn't even get a badge as a Scout, despite living her whole life in the wilderness (which is weird). The one thing that she had going for her is that she was incredibly kind and caring as well as awesome as an adventurer and dealing with the supernatural. The creators essentially took a large chunk of that away from her. And on top of that, she's getting an attitude towards her mom.

Creators essentially made her in Season 2:

Not very smart.
Not very powerful.
Not very competent.
Not very nice.
Brave.
Its really disappointing because in Season 1 she was:

Very smart - in her out of the box way.
Very powerful - in her when dealing with the supernatural / magical.
Very competent - in her areas of expertise.
Very nice - kind, understanding, accepting, and empathetic.
Brave.
All the great that I fell in love with the perfectly imperfect Hilda for was taken from her. Sad.

Like all the beef with her mom felt manufactured as hell, and it happened with the same micro conflicts. It's like they had micro amnesias episode to episode. Also in the last episode there was a perfect moment when hilda was worried over her mom/twig, for the mom to say "now you know how I feel". It felt like yeah ,this is what its building to. And then BOOM. She doesn't say it. I was super lost.

Also the grandson was so one dimensional that it sucked, there was no layering of him like other characters, and he learned absolutely nothing and was not punished either.

While I can appreciate that in season 2 they went further into the relationship Hilda and Mum have in the comics I think it was too much too late because Hilda in the show is a utter fucking sweetheart compared to comic Hilda and her attitude felt like a sudden 180 compared to the first season. Their relationship was just too good in the first season for it to now try to replicate the comics.

Grandson? Erik? I agree he was pretty one dimensional. If they were going to make him bad they should have made him an actual force to be reckoned with instead of the incompetent element of vainglory that he was. That being said his first like ten minutes of scenes were charming as fuck.

Dude can't even fend off normalish trolls. He doesn't seem to have the giant ass flashlight pistol from the comics so I doubt he can do anything(it'd have solved episode one and thirteens issues too fast.)
I still found that really weird, in the comic they were all about light being the best way to fight and bells to disorient and warn but in the show even with the troll patrol car powerful lights are not present.

I just finished the second season. You know, I found people bitching about Hilda to be unreasonable until that last fucking episode. Literally the whole thing could've just had been avoided if she wasn't such a little shit who decided to disobey her mom for the billionth fucking time. In season one Hilda never focused on school cause she was too busy questioning everything and leaned on Alfur for ideas before Frida came along; Hilda's actually better in season 2 cause she more clever about thinking on her feet, like dealing the draugen crew trying to kill her as she fled.

Most likely, Hilda mentioned David's marra was always alone, and never socialized with anyone. She also was very self conscious of her acne. So probably they are very isolated or at the very least lack many friends their age peer.

They are not that older than Frida, and only a head taller than them. The upper age limit would be 14 at best. If we use height comparisons for an adult, Gerda who is the shortest adult is only 2 heads taller than Hilda and is a head shorter than Johanna.

I see Johanna's permissiveness exist because Hilda isn't doing anything wrong other than disobey her. She knows that Hilda is accustomed to life outside the city and doesn't want to repress the urge to go out and do kid stuff. Plus, maybe she was similar to Hilda when she was her age and empathizes with her?

I do agree that Hilda is dishonest with her mother, but above that, the fact that Hilda barely tells Johanna jack from her adventures is even sadder. Her "You're just a mum" line was realistic. Kids see a lot of stuff they don't tell their parents about. Hilda is no different. She sees how Incompetent Erik is but doesn't make any comments to her mother because she doesn't know any better. She sees her mother drawing up blueprints for belltowers and doesn't reprimand her because of what she knows.

Oh, and let's not forget that time she stepped into the bellwatcher's home, alone.

Honestly, I don't get why Hilda is called a brat so much and why Johanna is called a shit mother, these words are hyperbole in their situation. Hilda is a good kid and Johanna is a good, single mother.

In my case, I'm aware of that, just trying to inject a bit of humor into my analysis. Well, for the most part. That's why I said that I was okay with Hilda acting more like a kid this season. I think it's pretty natural. She was so sweet, well-behaved, and mature in the first season that you kind of forgot that she's only eleven. Her going all, "You're only grounding me to be mean!" was pretty realistic. I do think that Johanna is still too lenient though. I like that she's very understanding and doesn't want to be too strict, but I think she should've put her foot down when it comes to Hilda just going out and doing shit without telling her. I know it's just a kids' show but there are some major creeps out there and a parent should know what their kid is doing at any given moment.

I mean, that shit kind of worked a lot of the time. It's kind of hilarious seeing Johanna doubt herself and go all, "Am I being too hard on her? I actually don't think so. It's heavily implied nobody ever lets or wants their kids to go outside the wall. Even the yearly camping trip was inside the wall(makes the camping trip on e4 weird and a bit not fitting for scouts) and all the other activities. Kids climb the walls and graffiti them but I don't think they ever actually go out until Hilda came along.

>Mara don't count, they're already obviously doing something unusual. Though it's weird they have meetings in the Huldrawood outside of the walls but also have meetings inside the walled forest when the trip is going on.
