>>119196643I don't know why people (not /co/ obviously) are eating this up. Even if you try to put in modern events, Animaniacs still feels dated. It's whole existence was thanks to the rise of classic shows that was going on in the 90's. Not only were much older things gaining popularity like Gilligan's Island, I Dream of Jeanie, and I Love Lucy, but so were Looney Tunes, Tom & Jerry, and Merrie Melodies and it was because of reruns since networks were now trying to fill up 24 hour slots instead of shutting off TV broadcast between the hours of 2AM - 6AM. That's why we had stuff like Tiny Toons, it's a big reason why something like Space Jam was a huge success, it was coming hot off the trail of two big things at the time.
But stuff like old MGM or Warner Brothers cartoons isn't as big anymore outside of enthusiasts. They're TRYING with stuff like HBO Looney Tunes, but it just doesn't seem to have the reach anymore. I really don't see the current generation of kids growing up and recognizing the name "Chuck Jones" like a lot of 90's kids did, just from old reruns alone.
Animaniacs is always going to feel dated, no matter how many references to 2016 election you throw in there.
