>>118476623>Am I seriously the only one who enjoyed the episode? Yeah, the pacing was off as usual, and the chemistry between Darkwing, Launchpad and Gosalyn isn't the same as before, but nothing about it irked me.I feel weird about this episode. I really enjoyed it, but I don't know what if anything it would mean if I hadn't watched the original Darkwing Duck show.
It seems like a love letter to the fans and I think that's great, I just don't know if it could stand on its own or not. For example, most of the funniest jokes were Disney Afternoon references and while the moments of Darkwing and Gosalyn bonding tugged at my heartstrings, that's only because the original relationship meant so much to me from the original show. The first episode of the show kind of established both Darkwing and Gosalyn as lonely outcasts who found each other, and their bond and relationship was the heart of the show from the beginning. Here, their meeting was a subplot to the main DT reboot story arc and neither seemed that lonely, Darkwing already knows Launchpad, Dewey, and Fenton and has a computer sidekick, for example. And Gosalyn is still looking for her grandfather who is presumably still alive. In the original, he was dead and she had been an orphan for a while who was constantly rejected by prospective parents in the same way Darkwing wasn't noticed by the city.
In the original, the situation with Taurus Bulba was also different. Taurus Bulba was a really deadly serious villain on DWD who literally murdered Gosalyn's grandfather and nearly killed her. In turn, in the first episode of the original show, Darkwing literally nearly sacrificed his life towards the end to save the day, and basically killed Taurus Bulba while doing so. So when Taurus Bulba came back later in the series, Gosalyn froze with fear because of what he'd done to her and Taurus was really fucking serious about wrecking Darkwing who basically killed him.
