>>118346844I disagree. While it's true that Rey and Bella are on opposite ends of the power scale (until book 4/movie 5 of Twilight), their problem is the same as every Mary Sue/Gary Stu:
The plot consistently contorts itself to accommodate them with almost no plausibility.
>ReyFlies the Millennium Falcon better than Han Solo on her first try
Mind trick out of nowhere
Goes toe to toe with a Skywalker with no training and a borrowed lightsaber
Is given Luke's lightsaber just because
Changes Luke's mind by being so convincing/passionate
Does a force skype call with Kylo/Ben, again with no training. This is the first we've seen of this even being possible.
>Never watched the third movie, don't care>Bella (going by the movie version)Smells like fried chicken or something to vampires
Gets to be the first Haole to learn the Indian History
Is so beloved by vampires they repeatedly break their first rule (don't be discovered) for her
Even the cruel vampire council loves her
First day of school she already has people falling over themselves to get to know her
Has two+ guys fighting over her because she's so special without displaying any personality
As you can see, the problem with Mary Sues isn't how much or little power they have in-universe, it's that the story bends over backwards to make them important
>inb4 James Bond, because James Bond is introduced as one of the best spies, and all his gadgets are given to him at the start of the movie. >pic unrelated
