>>118327289No, it is perhaps the most. Yeah environmental damage can take all sorts of forms, but what is most important is preventing climate change from irreparably damaging the habilitability of the planet.
>>118327276>>118327336How the fuck is this an argument? You keep just repating "duh, the earth is OLD" as if that's a big earth-shattering gotcha. But it isn't.
Incidentally we have much more than 300 years of recorded history. The first historian was around 2400 years ago, but there are human records dating back 70,000+ years.
Anyway, you know why we know the Earth is 4.5 billion years old? Because of Clair Patterson. He carbon-dated meteorites from the formation of the Earth to figure it out, but it was an extremely difficult task because the amount of lead in the environment was extremely high and kept messing up his results.
Patterson was intriuged by this and started to research the prominence of lead in our environment. He soon discovered evidence that the lead in our environment was a recent development, that it hadn't been around even a hundred years before. What's more, lead is a chronic insult to the human body that makes people delirious and violent. He soon figured out that this lead was being put into the environment by leaded gasoline. Oil companies were diluting their gas with lead to let them sell more, it was then combusted by cars and spewed out of their exhausts in gas form and mingled with the air where humans consumed it.
Patterson rang the alarm bells, but the oil industry fought back. They cut his funding and tried to get him fired. They hired their own paid-for researchers to publish papers and speak in the media contradicting his findings.
