Whole theater to ourselves, free popcorn and drinks, good-sounding audio in a room built for proper acoustics, huge screen.
There's something unique about watching a film in a space designed specifically for that purpose, and being away from your house so that things like those chores that need doing or the possibility of the phone or doorbell ringing are just completely out of your mind. Having a real home theater room is probably close, but if you're in an apartment or you don't know how to set all that up you're just shit out of luck, and I think that's the reason people were still going to the cinemas. Despite all the downsides, there just isn't any other way for most people to get that experience.
