What’s the exact episode Steven universe died? I think it’s the one where Lars died. They could have done so much more with Steven on homeworld. He could’ve started a rebellion but nah they just cheese it by whacking Lars and going home and after that it got worst. Connie got mad at Steven which wasn’t bad but they wrote it horribly. Why was Steven the bad guy for giving himself up. It was like a worst version of Connie and Steven after the jailbreak episode.

To me the show was still good, and Ialways enjoyed it, I liked the Pink diamond reveal and it added another layer to Rose’s character, White diamond redemption was rushed I’d give that but the scene were that happened was beautiful, made us understand her character and had very interesting parallels between her and Pink diamond, never minded nor got bothered by the “filler”, the pacing could have been better but it didn’t stopped me from enjoying the show

the exec forced a format that the crew had to work around and with. This changed alot of the decision of pacing which filler became a byproduct of that.

I think it truly died after Lars of the Stars. All the drama and uncertainty of Lars’ fate was washed away by having him suddenly become a roguish space pirate off screen.

And in the end Lars status as a immortal human who lead a group of freak Gems was never utilized in a meaningful way. In Change Your Mind, which was theoretically the series finale, he just conveniently lands back on earth after the conflict has been resolved and does nothing. Then in Future he is just working at a bakery and leaves again for space before the final conflict with Monster Steven.

So ultimately Lars going from a douchebag kid to a cool space man was little more than a plot contrivance to dissolve the conflict around his fate and free the show from the obligation of being away from Beach City.

Anyway I think SU was just insanely overhyped. UP until Jailbreak aired it had a quaint following with some people liking it for its premise as a coming of age story with some fantastical elements mixed in.

But then everyone on twitter/tumblr was like GUYS HOLY SHIT ESTELLE SINGING ABOUT BEING GAY WE HAVE TO MAKE THIS THE NEXT ADVENTURE TIME THIS IS IT GET HYPED!

As a follower of the show since the pilot, it was weird seeing it transform throughout its lifespan. From The Zuke Arc, to the Tumblr Arc to where it spawned dozens of videos on youtube calling it the worst show ever. It was fucking bizzare and i don't think the people working on the show ever thought it would transpire to be that.

Deciding the Space Facsist can be pardoned and allowed to stay in power because they said sorry and hugged it out. Also everything about the Pink Dimond revealed. Only having 5 or so episodes every 6 months really killed pacing. And with 3 of the 5 being nothing but townie filler that just destroys viewer interest.

But for me it was the total shift from magic monster hunting around the world in hidden locations and ancient temples in the first season, to slice of life kid adventures around town in the rest of the seasons.

Season 3 and onward was basically a completely different show from the first. And now that initially got me into watching.

That arc was certainly the point of no return, but I think the first hit was Barn Mates. The reduction of fan favorite characters immediately after the quick resolution of issues built up over the entirety of the previous season are problems that plagued the show until its end and it all started there.

It's honestly stupid that the crew restructured the pacing of the show to match how it was being aired, especially since several of the bombs we got were just filler. Hell, they couldn't even get it right cause the "arc" with Aquamarine and Topaz was only 4 episodes, along with the Wanted "arc".

Hmm, interesting. As someone who enjoys deep complex lore, hates power of friendship bullshit, enjoys huge sweeping story arcs, tons of complex and interesting characters with huge backstories, and expansive world building long term story telling over the stupid monster of the week per episode stories that serve no purpose in the greater scheme of things, would I enjoy My Little Pony? Should I try it?
