It's a damn shame.
They had a solid premise and formula. Star worked so well as a fish-out-of-water character, it was novel.

Why did they have to switch the setting over to Mewni halfway through? It's such a boring and soulless environment by comparison. Ironic how putting her back "in her element" took away so much of what made the show what it was.

Cute reverse isekai with interdimensional adventures > pretentious quasi-fantasy drama. Of course they had to find a way to force Marco and even Janna (why?) into the new setting and formula as well.

Could the show have worked if it stuck to the format of the first two seasons? In the end, it was all really about Star calling Earth her home. The real endgame villain should've been a threat to Earth.
