Doesn't always work, O'Barr isn't the best artist or writer, but he's very ambitious and sincere and the book is really raw and emotional and that always comes through even when some of his writing doesn't. That scene with horse running into the barb wire was always stuck with me. I gotta be honest I don't understand exactly what or if there is a deeper meaning or metaphor there beyond the obvious comparison to his wife's death, but the imagery and tone left a big impact. Could say that about all of the book really though.
