The problem is how do you mix cool MACOs with Star Trek Hope and peaceful Utopian vision?
I can think of 3 ways
1: Go pre/early Federation. In which case it will have to be bittersweet as in the end the MACOs get decommissioned. So
1A: MACOs are still needed, but have to deal with changes as growing peace changes their role. Could play up how Andorians pushed to become a key part of the Federation military much to the dislike of the Vulcans. Even small fights would be hell with an over bearing Vulcan civilian Director, and half a team of loud mouth Andorians commando joining your group. This would hit every political topic hard. I would say this could go too far and people would freak out with a rip of military integration during a de-funding period, but after what they did with Discovery they have already fumbled triggering everything so it can only get better.
1B: MACOs are not needed and have to deal with what to do when there are no battles to fight. Conflict is more internal as they find hope in rebuilding their lives. A tragic slow burn story.
2: Go the full dark route. The reason everything is so nice and hopeful is Section 31 and MACOs make it that way with countless black ops shit everywhere. This would be a complete betrayal of Star Trek, but if they clearly draw a line between DARK Trek and Star Trek I would tolerate it as market diversification.
3: Rebrand the MACO idea into some cool new non-Star Trek series where you can go nuts. And have all the Space Special Forces you want because it is not Star Trek and doesn't concet at all.
