You could probably execute the same premise with the same setup and atmosphere and have it be just as entertaining, but I strongly prefer it as it is. Episodes like the ones with the mammoths or plague are fantastic shorts.

Nah I prefer the separation. Even if you're watching them all in a row I feel like the series lends itself better to a series of events rather than a rapid succession of snapshots

Wouldn't really work as a movie because the episodes so far are all self-contained stories, presenting all of those in a row in movie form would just make it weird

Definitely a serial. Movies typically need a three act structure, that kind of thing doesn't suit a series of relatively stand alone adventures.
