The Indian Removal Act was a pretty bastard thing to do, but If you understood even a tiny amount of History you'd understand WHY it happened and arguably why it NEEDED to happen.
Post IRA the Indians were treatied as self-governing states, which After the civil war, became increasingly unrealistic because most Indians were on State, not Federal land, and thus either needed to comply and abolish their own self governance or move to Federal Land.
So Andrew Jackson was given two choices, Effectively destroy the Indian self-states and force Indians to become American ctizens or relocate them. He chose the one that he thought would have preserved them the most and forcibly relocated them to Federal Land, where their own laws could be negotiated more.
This is why in the modern day, Natives have their own land with their own rules, because it's not state owned land.
