I'm genuinely convinced that the suits figured out outrage marketing about 4 years ago and have been making aggressively shit properties precisely because of the backlash they'll get, while also being cheap as fuck to produce because the poorer the quality, the more outrage, the more free marketing. It made sense during the 2008 financial crisis and its aftershocks that entertainment would take a downturn, but 2016-2019 saw broad economic growth where we were getting huge quantities of shit anyway. It doesn't make any sense unless it's a very conscious decision.
