The Chinese citizen is essentially indentured, he doesn't really own what he has, he doesn't really choose what he does, he is either given, or allowed things, and that's ideal for a corporation. They can't just not buy the thing they're selling, they can't criticize the thing they're doing, because there's no alternative, and because that's bad for your credit score. It's a step beyond monopoly, it's a captive market, a system of compulsive consumption. Look at Wechat, it's facebook, it's twitter, it's your bank, it's amazon, it's airlines and hotels, the government has it thoroughly bugged and you can't do jack shit without it. That's the kind of power they want to have here.
