This is actually kind of horrifying when you think about it long enough.
Because if it’s multi-verse theory and not the theory of time travel where you can actually change the future. Then Jack basically left the Scotsman and everyone else in our future wear Aku won.

Yes Jack had to erase Ashi from existence to change the future. But it was a sacrifice he had to make to keep that horrible future from coming to exist at all and prevent all that suffering

Well, it's just not that different. Its the exact same scene but it fades to black once Ashi disappears in the original, you can even see the point where she was starting to struggle before the fade. Its just a bonus scene with no emotional or narrative weight, why would anyone care? As much as the original was a Gurren Laggan ripoff, it was still done with a purpose and emotion with it, Jack saved the world but couldn't saved the thing he loved the most, a bittersweet ending that Genndy planned. Was it good? No, but there was a thought behind it.
This has no thought behind it, it's just a cheap scene where Ashi is with Jack that borrows assets from the original ending. It feels weak and meaningless.

Everything about the inclusion of Ashi is terrible, her existence or nonexistence is irrelevant to the fact that she derailed the whole show when that screentime could've been used to give a satisfying conclusion to Jack's journey. Season 5 was a mistake in general minus the first three episodes.

Honestly this is not bad. All of Jack's friends are alive in the alternate timeline and can rebuild after Aku plus Ashi has Aku's powers she can take Jack to the new future if she wants but knowing Jack he would hate that.

The problem with the Ashi dying ending is that she should have dropped dead the INSTANT Aku died. They literally kept her alive for forced melodrama.

Even so the main issue with Season 5 is Ashi should have never bee invented. It was a horrible idea. It also had other problems for the story like Jack nonsensically not aging anymore. How about Jack's sword is now alive and has a consciousness and chooses to abandon Jack? Where did that bullshit come from? If the sword now has a consciousness WHY would it allow Aku to touch it? Or how about killing off the Scotsman for no real good reason at all (people theorized the Scottman would save Jack from the samurai ghost, but nothing happened). It's a mess. It's a horrible mess.

Forgot to mention another moment of atrocious writing is Jack murdering Ashi's sisters and nonsensically sparing Ashi even though she never showed a better nature. She was repeatedly insisting on killing Jack.

And even if you ignore that the whole forced love interest garbage is cringe after all, Jack still murdered her family. Ashi loves a man who killed her sisters. It makes her look like garbage.

How many times during the series did Jack explicitly avoid returning to the past because he wanted to save the people he'd met in the future? I always thought the ideal ending would be for Jack to realize that, for all the suffering Aku caused, erasing that future and all the people he'd met to get his family back would just be its own form of atrocity. I really foolishly thought he'd defeat Future Aku with all his new friends, then finally let go of the idea of returning to the past.

Well I still hate Ashi but I do prefer to see Jack happy this way rather than swallowing some depression. I keep seeing them air S5 and eventually the finale on Adult Swim and every time it just feels needlessly cruel to Jack. I just want him to be seriously happy, not "look to the future and smile after your wife died at the altar" kind of happy. Also a little lame that they snipped her dying scene so weirdly instead of just animating a new bit around that point. I would also have liked to see him actually get married.

I wanted to play this game but I don't know if I'll ever be able to play it since my laptop probably would lag on this and I don't think I have the consoles it was made for, the gameplay trailer looked fun to me and I haven't played a game in a long time.

I wonder if Gennedy did this after seeing some backlash (it seems people were mainstream accepting of it) or if he just wanted to toss the people wanting a happy end a bone.

The original ending should have had like 10 seconds devoted to showing Aku has a screeching time portal summoning power where he teases him with it again in front of Ashi so she can at least know what the fuck that is instead of figuring it out out of nowhere in 2 seconds. I really like the "I didn't mean to interrupt you and your lady friend, i'll be on my way, pretend I was never here" moment so have it before he finds out Jack does have his sword.

Game was alright if a bit janky but Aku's boss fight was a complete waste considering how little he actually transformed. At the bare minimum there should have been at least a couple of phases where he turns into the animal forms he always does, it was such a missed opportunity. The complete and utter lack of costumes outside of his armor outfit he automatically has on a couple levels was also a bit of a disappointment. Wished the ultrabots, minions of Set, and blind archers got some love too since they were the only real iconic enemies that were missing.

Not him, I've not finished and am only playing on normal right now so I can't give a full perspective but ultimately its your standard 2 button action game. The attack animations feel a little stiff at first but once you get a few upgrades and weapons things start to flow better. The main skill system doesn't feel too bad as far as grind and even rewards level exploration for getting unlock items in later levels but the upgrades you buy with gold do feel a bit grindy. I just reached the areas that are in season 5 and only have 2 levels in magic sword, 1 in club, and 1 in spear and there are a ton more with tons of gold required to unlock. I don't think its intended to be maxed out though as I'm not having too much issue progressing but its worth noting the game gets better as you unlock moves.

If I were asked to recommend it I think I would right now but I would wait for a price drop. 40$ is a bit steep and the only reason I sprung for it is because a friend gave me a gift card as a birthday gift.

He's not letting anything happen, it already happened. They died. His parents died. His nation died. Billions of people have died (most not because of anything having to do with Aku) and have been dead and buried for thousands and thousands of years.

If you built a time machine to travel back in time and kill Hitler before WWII starts, I doubt the millions of hypothetical lives you intend to save will be of any comfort to the families that are going to cease to exist by your doing so.

I feel like it could have made it work if the Daughter's of Aku plot had taken up more of the season, with Jack facing them multiple times, having to fight harder and harder to survive each time, and seeing Ashi's side of things as a parallel where she becomes more disillusioned over time until she's no longer willing to fight him. Also drop the literal connection to Aku, because that was dumb and introduced only so they could pull the episode 9 twist and pull a deus ex machina portal out in episode 10. Just have them be normal kids brainwashed by some Aku cult.

The future that is Aku has already happened, it's over and done with. Going back in time and stopping Aku isn't saving the lives of everyone who died over the last few thousand years, it's only saving the lives of the people who were alive at the time when Jack was sent into the future. Everyone else - all the billions and billions of people who've been conceived and lived and loved and raised families and fought and struggled and died between that point and the point where Jack is flung back into the past by Ashi will cease to exist.

It is unimaginably immoral to erase trillions of people from existence to retroactively save a few million people who've been dead and buried for millenia.

It would be saving whoever died by Aku who had control of the entire world that whole time relatively unimpeded beyond a a few pockets of resistance that were easily crushed under his heel and the ones that did live did so out of Aku's apathy since he couldn't be killed by anyone but Jack. Many of these people were perfectly willing to sacrifice their dystopian future in favor of one without Aku who again likely killed just as many people that had lived during his rule since the time he flung Jack into the future.

Here's the problem with the ending that I'm too lazy to see someone point out earlier in the thread; The entirety of season 5 is Jack coming to terms with being stranded in the future. Literally the entire season until the last half of the final episode.

Not only that, but given how the entire show's plot is resolved, all the times Jack had the opportunity to go back but chose not to do so to save those in trouble are immediately underminded and rendered moot. And if time doesn't work like that in the show to keep those choices relevant, he literally just damned an entire reality to live forever under Aku because he took the only weapon that could kill Aku with him.

His immortality is also a total non-issue anyways because there's a myriad of reasons on why that's the case, and Ashi dying of old age is not a thing being a daughter of an eldritch being. Probably.

No, it wouldn't. Statistically speaking the odds of any of those people coming into existence is basically nil. A trillion trillion trillion events from the major to the insignificant had to happen for you to be conceived, and if any single one of them didn't happen that way, the sperm cell that fertilize the egg that became you doesn't and you don't exist. Now extrapolate that across thousands of years. Basically anyone who wasn't conceived within... probably a week or two of Jack getting flung into the future is going to never exist.

Yes, Aku's future sucks big time, but it is not just 24/7 excruciating torture for everyone forever. People lived their lives, got married, had families, who lived lives of their own, and so on. A million hypothetical resurrections are not worth even a single present life, let alone trillions.

The physical position of Earth had changed as the galaxy rotates and the galaxy itself moves though the universe.
Being many light years from the position of Ashi's conception and given that nothing can travel faster than light, it's possible that Jack and her would have lived out their lives together.

If Jack traveled ~1000 years into the future, the difference between where he is when Ashi flings him back and where he is when he kills Aku is ~0.8 light years (~9.5 months). Operate under timeline split. I wanted our Jack to go back to the past and prevent his past self from being flung forward, instead throwing himself in. His past self succeeds in defeating Aku, and Jack gets to re-befriend AU versions of the characters in a Utopian future.

This satisfies several things for me:

- Jack still has to go back to the past
- Past Jack witnesses the change he fought for and lives in a time suited to him, Future Jack witnesses the change he fought for and lives in a time suited to him
- Ashi could still be around
- Does not contradict its own fictional time logic (if Ashi vanishes because she wasn't born, then Jack should have no memories of her nor any of his adventures in a future Aku never created)

I would have liked it if Jack does go to the past and undoes the dystopian future, but owing to him being flung into the future he is still cursed with immortality, and sadly has to watch his friends pass away.

Jack lives many lives, mostly in ensuring the world never succumbs to evil, but his existance in it of itself becomes legend.

Hundreds of years into the future, we see Jack in casual clothing. He's chosen a comfortable life, a simple life. As he walks down the streets of the future, we see AU versions of the characters he's met over the years. Who knows, maybe he went off to get a coffee for his friend the Scotsman as they walk along the streets having a bit of bantz. Maybe he has his beard. On the streets he hears a street performer do a rendition of his song, maybe explaining the deeds that he did to get them where they are today.

As he passes the streets he comes across a familiar face. A woman who looks like Ashi. There's a brief pause, he's awestruck. He sadly smiles, and moves along.

I would say it's a subtle change, but the end result is quite different. With something like a game, they normally try to give you an option to 'have your cake and eat it too'. It was more of a fun bonus for people who just wanted to see Jack have the one thing he wanted for himself outside of his mission.

In original S5 ending Genndy confirmed all of Jack's friends will still exist, just in a better future without Aku.
Ashi is one of Jack's friends, so her disappearing goes against Genndy's own words of all of Jack's friends existing in the future.
You forget that Ashi was just one of the babies of a pregnant woman that drank Aku essence, which in turn tainted the babies inside her.
All this means is that those babies are still born in the new, better future, no longer tainted by Aku essence.
That's why Ashi doesn't disappear, because she's still fated to be born in future without Aku.

Like anon said, even with production constraints he had years to plan this out *before* pitching it to the network, but while the first half of the season seems very thought out and planned, the second half feels like Genndy didn't have more than a rough idea of where the story was going when production started.

You didn't need a 20 minute epilogue. Even just a little 10-15 second add-on to the end when he's looking over the valley of his homeland and having it do a Gangs of New York-style fade where we see a future city in its place, looking bright and happy and peaceful in contrast to Aku's dystopia, maybe having the tree now standing at the center of a park where we see a couple of alt-versions of characters sitting peacefully.

Despite it being the theme song, Jack shouldn't have gone back to the past. By the end, he has spent more of his life in the future. That's where his friends are. That's where defeating Aku matters most, what with all the time paradox nonsense that hopping back in time would cause. Did all the people Jack meet on his travels just cease to exist due to the vastly different landscape of the world thanks to no Aku?

If he MUST go back to the past, I would only have it so he has a chance to say the goodbye to his family which he was unable to do before.

If he went back in time in the first place, no matter the consequences, it simply would've just retconned his entire time in said future, resulting in some plain "everything is back to normal" ending. By including Ashi, it created a more interesting story-telling conflict that would end up portraying the message better

this is exactly why he should've never gotten back. Ashish inclusion only served to add a saccahrine romance subplot and a couple headscratching paradoxes.

Why do retards equate Jack changing the future as being the same as killing trillions?

For all we know, the timeline could diverge and all those people are alive but with Aku dead. Even if it's the same timeline, maybe all those people exist but without living under the oppressive yoke and brutality of Aku.

The meme was the first 3 episodes were nearly perfect while the last 7 were a constant downward slope. I agree with this.
I didn't stop enjoying until the factory episode, and kinda finished just to finish, but it was overall good, not great.
