>>117050340Unfortunately, actual fantasy shows have been largely replaced in recent years by the isekai genre. Isekai, or portal fantasy, involves people from the modern world (read: japan) getting transported to generic fantasy settings. Its usually an exercise in lame power fantasy.
A couple of noteworthy examples worth watching anyway include:
Ascendance of a Bookworm: a junior librarian dies and wakes up in the body of a 5 year old girl in the poor part of town in a fantasy setting. She has so superpowers, and her new body is actually really feeble even for a child, but she is armed with a lot of modern day earth knowledge that she is willing to leverage to make the things she wants for herself. Often with dangerously little concept of how valuable her recreations are, or how much she risks upsetting the power structure of the city by making what would be considered luxury items for the nobility in her own backyard and selling them to poor people.
Konosuba: A direct parody of the traditional isekai setup. Japanese dude dies, gets sent to a fantasy world with vague orders to kill the demon king and save the world, and immediately fucks off to do literally anything else because god that sounds dangerous. Eventually puts together a team of other really awful people to act as a low-tier adventuring party, and the stage is set. The first episode is mostly setup, but once the ball gets rolling and the cast is assembled it gets really funny.
