It somehow manages to look worse than straight 2D, straight 3D, 2D pretending to be 3D like Klaus, or 3D pretending to be 2D like the Dragon Ball Fighter Z game, all at once.
Just adding panels, sound effects, and halftones to something doesn't automatically make it "look like a comic book", or at least not a good one. If they really wanted to evoke the comic book feel in a genuine way they could've made a 2D animated movie based on an established comic book art style like the Marvel house style or based on staple Spider-Man artist like Bagley who both worked on ASM and defined the Ultimate universe which would truly be revolutionary. Or at least using something else as the concept art basis for their 3D models than literal Disney/Pixar/DreamWorks character designers and concept artists like Shiyoon Kim, Borja Montoro, Guillermo Ramírez etc.
It's a hollow and dishonest art direction for hollow people who have never read a comic book in their lives but would like to say they are because it's trendy these days. They actually had an inspired direction with what Alberto Mielgo had in mind for the movie, but they let him go and settled on "Disney but throw in some cel shading and chromatic aberration and shit like that" and retards ate it up.
