I don't think it's fair to compare this with Summer Camp Island or Primal because they're all doing completely different things. I'd just say CN has been killing it in general.

I didn't watch this beyond the first episode of S2. Only got bits and pieces from seeing the occasional thread pop up. I didn't stop because Lake is an annoying brat but because I have a hard time seeing her as a "clone wanting to find her identity" and not "Tulip runs away from her problems for good and looks for a new identity" The brat part just makes this worse, so does her winning and apparently being justified by the narrative.

So bonding with the other protagonist feels kinda like a relationship born out of not telling the complete truth, unless she told him everything in one of the remaining nine episodes.

Perhaps I wouldn't have this hang up if they didn't make a point of showing that Tulip has no reflection now, because that to me implies that Lake is not a mere train construct. But it also implies that every reflection has the potential to be "real", including Tulip's parents. And that would mean a connection between Lake and Tulip's "mirror parents".

Or does S2 in general prove me wrong on these assumptions?

To put it simply; it does. Lake and Jesse do bond and she does share her origins with him. Also, the point is that Lake is trying to carve an identity for herself despite existing solely to reflect Tulip (who doesn't even appear). I wouldn't worry about that last part since mirror people can get reconditioned so they probably won't even remember Lake.

Personally, I never got the complaint that she was a brat. She had no identity of her own for years and all of a sudden, she's thrust into this unfamiliar world with no one to aid her. She's scared and frustrated so it's lt a surprise that she'll act that way.

Watch it it's great.

Like this is exactly what I wanted out of a cartoon dramatica. The characters have resolving stories and different motivations, the lore isn't intrusive and is revealed complementary to the narrative and we have some outside knowledge from the rest of Tulip Prime's journey. Dramatic Irony, themes of fighting against fate and circumstance as well as existentialism. Holy fuck I love this so much. And how Angeline's actions affected others in train culture? Well fucking written! I can't think of a thing to dislike!

Even if this were true, it doesn't compare to Primal, that is very faint praise given the garbage CN has pushed out in the latter half of the decade. Book 1 was largely unremarkable due to having a boring lead and a rushed ending and the decision to make this an anthology series is what ultimately saved it because a lofty premise like this following an uninteresting lead would be hard to sit through it's probably the main reason Book 2 gets so much praise is because it expanded the setting and gave us a more interesting set up that gets bogged down by an unlikable MC to which the narrative bends over for. Book 3 feels like it should be the best one thus far but I feel it's going to rushed since there's not nearly enough time to make Grace and Simon's redemption convincing because while also unlikable they have good chemistry unlike Lake and Jesse and the story could actually go some places to make it reach it's potential but so far it feels like the outcome will be predictable.

Nah Book 2 is great. Book 1 would've worked like a movie only cus it's the fucked up wizard of Oz. And when you learn how passengers get off you don't want the focus the next story on another sob character's backstory, so you do it on Train culture. MT doesn't have a history, that's her whole thing. So you focus on Null-Passenger relationships and the effects the train takeover had besides turtle land. (We never did see how one-one got to the snow car).

Haven't gotten that far but up to Ep8 everything seems fine. I don't get how she's dislikeable. Her dislikeable traits are there but I don't think it ruins the character. She does grow. Just because she's independent doesn't mean asking others for help is bad. Trying to resist a fate where your less than an object. That sort of stuff is interesting.

When I think about it, it seems potentially less concerning than the consequences of a girl with no reflection existing. Everyone who looks at Lake is just gonna believe she’s wearing shiny body paint unless she insists on proving otherwise to them, which she doesn’t really have reason to do. But Tulip undeniably has something scientifically impossible going on with her.

So it feels like theyre setting up for Hazel hiding her true nature until they get back to the apex. The stress of unruly kids bullying her will cause her to transform in front of the apex and simon. He will want to wheel her and grace will protect her causing her number to fall significantly.

The decade is way too much. I would say Mao Mao is better than infinity train for being more consistent and having fewer flaws.
Infinity train is good but the 10 episode seasons really ruin a lot of its potential. Things have to be rushed, character relationships aren't as strong given the few episodes they bond in, the concept of the train is wasted since the plot is more focused on the characters drama more than the actual worlds of the train (notice how this season has 2 cars we didn't even get to see how you solved their puzzles), etc. If book 3 was a 20 episode season then it would have probably been a 10/10 masterpiece that would be the best thing CN did over a decade, but it chose to just have 10 episodes, so it works against it. And the previous books had the same issue too, the writers cant balance the creative worlds of the cars and the characters drama so that they both get the equal spotlight.
Book 3 is cool but the flaws keep it down and prevent me from taking it too seriously. That death scene was goofy as fuck

The train is kinda fucked. It kidnapped it's passengers, but once inside it's up to you to do everything. I always get the sense that you can actually die doing the wrong thing or they're trains that you can't escape from like the "kick the frog" car without the frog.

I’m gonna be honest, even if Simon gets redeemed I still think we’ll have a fight between him and Grace before that happens. The setup is just too perfect for it.

No reason to believe this is possible, or that anyone cares enough about him to make it happen. The train doesn't care what the passengers do, it just keeps them until their number goes to zero. Amelia had her number going up to her neck, excised One-One, and took the entire train over and she was left to her own devices the second One-One was back in charge.

Maybe Simon fucks with some of the magic administrative bullshit of the train itself and gets messed up somehow, but he's not going to be purposefully punished for how he interacts with the train.

As far as we know, One-One/ The Conductor just designs cars, adds them to the train and you chance upon it as you go through.

What I mean is that we have seen how the train process the passengers, they aren't teleported to a random car but processed in the tape car and then transported through the pods into their destination, which mean that car is like a hub of sorts, the center point where all passengers come from.
Now the pods doesn't move at light speed,(Lake could jump into one with little problem) so the pods should put the passenger in a relatively close location from the tape car and come back for another one or the train wouldn't be able to keep up with all the people being processed.
Which mean the area where actual people are running around is much smaller that the actual length of the train. considering this is not that strange to think that two people could meet multiple times in the train.

What if it turns out One-One didn't even notice the Apex were out there? And all this car-shifting, implicaitons of scanning for him, it's all just unrelated stuff about getting the car that best matches another passenger's needs ready, and they're putting WAY too much self-importance into what they do and what they destroy. I definitely don’t think that One One himself is some kind of 4D chess genius mastermind who is constantly setting up everything that happens. But I also don’t think he’s the sole driving force behind the things that happen on the train. I think the train holds a certain potential for serendipity, and I’m starting to think that passengers don’t just stumble into every car and into every null they encounter by pure chance. I dunno how sentient the train is, but it seems to be pulling some strings to get passengers to where they need to go.

Hazel is a result of MT/Lake fucking up the system. Because it was determined denizens could have numbers, there's nothing saying a denizen can't be a passenger. If all passengers have a denizen companion, and a passenger is anyone with issues to work through, the the train looks at a denizen like Tuba with a loss and attempts to generate a "passenger" to help her through it. Hazel is a denizen that just superficially resembles a passenger.

I'm that anon that was watching with my brother. Just caught up. It's interesting how the train's process is flawed. While Nulls can be used as companions and that's their "purpose", giving them sentience causes a risk for way more trouble. One-one's system while following some logic has obvious faults such as they will for certain nulls to fight back. There's also a risk of accidental death of innocent passengers. Still don't think Lake is dislikeable and didn't feel the end of book 2 was an asspull like others claim. In hindsight Book 3's events are kinda obvious from a second watching but the Turtle event was a good surprise. Book 1 while the ending felt fast I don't think they could've done it better. Really enjoying this series.

The show is about the train itself. I don't think Lake tricked One-One either. Seeing how his logic was flawed with Jesse wanting to come back and the case of people like Tulip exploiting denizen logic, it was more of a solution than trickery. Also, the mirror world is most likely separate from the train so it's a third fantastical entity that interferes with plans. It's One-One's fault for not factoring other dimensions.

Though your theory could still work. I think it's more of what if she has Amnesia and no longer has an issue but didn't solve it. If they didn't, they were not free people, and they were bound to be done shit by you. That's the original meaning of outlaw. You could do anything to them and you wouldn't suffer any consequences. It's not about slavery and racism, it's basic decency.
You wouldn't be friends with some serial killer that it's a menace to your other friends. I'd say it's about the supremacy of people capable of good.

Think about video game trains anon. The entire inside of the train is rendered in perfect detail and you can see a rendered world for miles outside of it moving at break neck speeds. Obviously the game couldn't render all of that outside world so quickly so whats really happening is that the train is staying perfectly still whilst the scenario and props move around it. The wasteland world doesn't actually exist and is just another projection by the train. You can't explore the wasteland because the train hasn't created it and it doesn't exist. nullspace, less than nothing exists out there.

Alright, interesting question time.

From what we know Grace & Simon have been on the train for a long time, the latter being 10 when he got on is now old enough to grow facial hair.

So if they were to get off the train, would they be brought back in their original age like in Jumanji? With Tulip and Jesse they got off the train not aging much so it’ll be interesting to see what they do with these two.

That's not how therapy works. Actually it's personal work that no one can do for you. You don't make someone's number to go up unless the other person wants it to go up.
It's not about what are you doing to other people, it's about what are you doing to yourself that's affecting other people.
It's pretty likely that Simon dumps Grace because she became a better person. He could guide or manipulate stuff to keep Grace numbers high, but in the end it only depends if Grace complies.

It was Jesse's issue in book 2.

In the book the pirates were all the kids he got bored with who grew up. Grace explicitly says 'never listen to adults' and then claims every child she sees like they're playthings she can own. And then she sabotages them so they can live in a shithole. So she doesn't have to be lonely. Adults are going to tell her to stop because she's harming others with her actions. Cults seperate people from support networks so they're easier to prey on.

She's like Peter Pan from the book, living in the moment with no concern for the damage she causes others. Except unlike Peter Pan, who is a literal boy and has no depth of emotion she's growing older and understanding the damage she causes.

If a kid started to get old, Peter straight-up murdered 'em in the books (barely touched upon, but mentioned in passing, and yes, yikes). They never had a chance to become anything else. The Pirates were just pirates. Hook was even given a specific history as Blackbeard's bosun.

Well, they are screwed, and despite being misguided, it's their responsibility to unfuck themselves. Grace and Simon can't do anything now. If they tell them they were wrong without a strong evidence for that, they will only lose their trust.
At that point, anyone who have done that just will have to live with the consequences. And honestly, that should be enough to exit the train.

That was the Jesse's issue in book 2, so it is the same now.

The original play was arguably more important than the original books, and emphasized that while Peter "killed" Lost Boys and Pirates, as soon as he turned his back they got back up and ran off. Trying to give the idea that it was all pretty much "lets pretend" on a massive scale.

All jokes aside, it's pretty clear that the train was built(?) with that intent, it's pretty obvious that even before Amelia showed up things had gone pretty "off the rails." It's generating fully sentient entities with their own baggage that really needs tending, and in some cases those beings are dying (even getting murdered), meanwhile some of the passengers are getting much worse and making other passengers worse (Apex might be the most obvious example, but I doubt it was the first time it's happened). And yeah, yanking in little kids to teach them "lessons" in an incredibly dangerous environment seems like a terrible idea. Even if the original intent was that you're meant to find a denizen companion quickly to help you avoid dangers, we know from what Grace has told us that it's possible to just... never hook up with one.

There' a hell of a lot about the train we don't know, but I'd speculate that the author intent was something along the lines of "it was built to help people, but it wasn't built by anyone that foresaw enough of the variables."

I think one of the bigger issues with this is the fact that this wasn't just a random act of violence like with other nulls. Simon, whether intentionally or not, got to know Tuba and even shared a joke. Tuba even went out of her way to share a painful memory and express how glad she was to have Hazel in her life. After all of that it wasn't the case that Simon just let Tuba die, no he made a very clear decision to unnecessarily end her life. Killing someone in a fit of rage is one thing, but to get to know someone, their pain and struggle, to even share a laugh with them, and then to mock them right before you take their only light in the world and gruesomely execute them, that's some cold-blooded shit.

How has Simon gotten worse? Just because he did the kill? The problem is he's the same as he started, this isn't the first time he killed a null, and probably not even the cruelest way he has done it. I do. I'd actually be impressed if she did die, but rules of fiction dictate that a character isn't dead if there is no body. Or, in the case of a kid's cartoon, some kind of final shot that basically "confirms" the death, as much as they can get away with for their target audience. Tuba will be back and she will be PISSED.
