Why are people applauding Owl House's gay dance scene? Steven Universe had a gay dance every five episodes. If anything, Disney is the LAST network to finally catch up with gay characters, they're not the first of anything.

This has really been bothering me. Disney is reluctantly following a trend at the very end of it in a reluctant "I guess we can't avoid it" kind of way, and they're being praised for it? What the fuck kind of logic is that?

This post reeks of /pol/ but there's some truth to people not watching anything unless it's new and mistakenly believing that it's the first piece of media to feature something. I've genuinely seen people claim that the MCU is the first time that any superhero movie has been successful, because they haven't watched the original Superman movie, Batman '89, or even the fucking Spider-Man movies from the early 00s.

This. As much as the Sugar and co. aimed to pander to the LGBT community, the point falls flat in that the gems are genderless lifeforms that are only female superficially. It’s think it’s just because it’s Disney, a huge family focused corporation, as opposed to something tucked away on Netflix or a smaller cartoon-focused company like CN. Disney is one of the biggest brands in the world and is less likely to be experimental, so I guess it’s less expected of them

As you said, it was very superficial and could actually be considered a point against sjw views if you looked into it enough. Like with how dysfunctional and intolerant the gem matriarchy is and how deeply fucked up the main cast was despite being portrayed as flawless at first.

They weren't, in fact it was basically the precise opposite. The cast started out really fucked up and gradually came to be portrayed as flawless, the only exception was Rose, which was the entire point of her character.
