The term was applied to humans before we came up with different terms, but technically a hermaphrodite has to be reproductively viable as both a male and female. While history tells us they existed, there have been no cases occurring in modernity for study and our sources are not scientists so they are disregarded. Until a new one appears, hermaphrodites aren’t something that can occur in humans.
Fun fact, the origin of the word is the Greek god Hermaphroditus who was Aphrodite’s son that bestowed his godly immortality on his demigod wife by asking his mother to merge them into one being, the god of human beauty. Generally portrayed as a man with plump vulva or more popularly a woman with an above-average size dick and balls.
