About representation, what's with representation of a whole group of of countries instead of making it more specific? We got Mulan from China, Princess and the Frog from America, and there's even Coco from Mexico and Amphibia depicting Thai culture. Why can't they make a movie based on a specific folk tale in Southeast Asia?
If you want to depict a SEAsian-inspired world, I wouldn't mind. Be my guest. But if you want to make a story that explores world building, it would take more than one movie to express them all. Avatar, a world based on Asian culture took three seasons. Lord of the Rings took three movies. Ideally, Raya would be a trilogy. But it's highly unlikely because even Frozen, the highest-rated modern Disney movie, only gets a sequel.
I'm sure a lot of SEAsians would be confused about the representation of their culture once the movie comes out. There's already confusion when OP pic and the concept art for released.
