This is nothing to do with covid, but covid is a convenient excuse to prune the dead wood, and god knows DC Comics and by extension DC Entertainment has been mostly dead wood for a long, long time. These people should have been gone ten years ago when New 52 was fucked up because nobody told the star writers to stick to the fucking script and DiDio blew up at fans - superfans, people who'd come to cons in cosplay to speak to the people who publish their favorite characters - for, er, enjoying some characters DiDio didn't have any books planned for as part of the ongoing disaster that was New 52. Harras should never have been hired, he was a fucking disaster at Marvel, everybody knew what a useless sack of crap he was. The whole managerial section of DC Comics has just been jobs for the boys for years. Fucking Johns should have been gone too, they only kept him around because he was the only prick they had who'd worked in tv and movies and comics long enough and in enough relevant jobs to understand both industries. Jim Lee was a fucking artist for fuck's sake, what the fuck is he expected to know about contracts or economics that someone who's a big DC fan and has an MBA couldn't tell them? Bad hire.
DC Collectibles is doing something in-house that it's more profitable to outsource to companies with proven track record who are already doing that kind of thing for big brands, eg McFarlane Toys.
Editors are going all across print publishing, not always to the good though they're easy targets for cost exercises. May hurt them longer term, but if it's what I think it is, then DC will be reprint-only sooner than you think. That's always been coming, but this situation may have accelerated it.
Oh and I imagine Bendis etc will be on notice. You don't do cost-cutting at this scale and not have a strongly worded conversation with creatives about getting those numbers up. Coffee is for closers.
