it doesn't take time to properly set up anything. It constantly rushes from point A to point C without adressing point C of any of its stories. Luz was going to learn magic under Eda, but then she just goes to a magic school. Amity is presented as a rival, but then they just become BFFs and potentially lovers. Luz struggles with magic but then paper just helps her do spells and she becomes a one of a kind magician, essentially making her "special", as she wanted back in the second episode. Lilith cant be a villain for more than one episode because you already see constantly how shes bickering with Eda like a little girl, even teaming up to take down some other bad guy together. The principal forces strict rules among the students, but then stops doing being so restrictive later.
The Eda curse mystery is probably the most affected. Why are curses rare? Wouldnt you think that in this random crazy world full of assholes that magic would be more normal? They want us to speculate on who cursed her, but it could have been anybody. Any random magician from the street could have done it, it doesn't have to be special. And the show barely gives us any clues so that we can properly theorize.
If this was a cancelled show of only one season I would understand, but this has a second one greenlit already, and I'm sure it will have a third one. So I don't know why they are rushing to the finish line like they are in a hurry
