TL;DR: Katara shouldn't have gone with Aang because it's shoehorned/forced, she stops being a character and becomes an object and prize for Aang when she used to be motherly to him. She should have went with Zuko because not only was the romance set up but Zuko was a better thematically since it went full circle from his betrayal of Katara for Azula, but shows that they've grown as people from one dimensional characters to being complex adults.
Also, Mae and Dante supported the ship.
