He sees his wife and his newborn daughter in her arms, he smiles, and walks towards them. In the actual episode this is kept except it ends at him smiling, he doesn't walk towards them. Here's the AMA.
https://www.reddit.com/user/hbomax/When watching season 1, because every episode except for the final one was cut down to half their script, there are artifacts from material that was removed. One character's first appearance in a scene is him standing on his bed with his phone, presumably taking a selfie with a poster behind him, they don't show that happening and it's just an assumption based on the direction he's standing. Another episode ends with the only appearance in that episode of another character, who is randomly injured and in casts. There's another scene in another episode where the daughter is with the main character and his friend at the store, and she's wearing a trash bag. I assumed at first this was supposed to be random, but now I'm willing to bet there was a scene explaining why. She's also wearing a trash bag in the opening credits where the theme ends with shots of things that happen throughout the season.
I'm feeling it's more likely that entire scripts and storyboards were cut down at the last minute rather than all completed episodes got cut, and that trying to condense 22 minutes into 11 meant they didn't fully time the condensed material right and some of the finished episodes ran slightly too long, and bits of completed animation had to be cut. Then again, there are some jumpcuts in the episode itself that immediately start with talking and poses that feel like dialogue had been cut that was part of the final episode.
