What I mean is that English is fairly unusual with how much can one phoneme vary in spelling (wiki lists at least 16 different ways you could pronounce 'ou', depending on the context). Other languages have orthographic rules that are often more simple than that and I would expect wrights wouldn't want to add "juggling pronunciations" to the list of all the other hard things you need to do while casting. I also vaguely remember Ashley referring to Russian, which certainly has a simpler orthography than English, but I might be misremembering.
Anyhow, that's just, like, my opinion and unless we get some pronunciation Word of God, then your guess is as good as any.
