Don't be intimidated by recipes, and don't be upset if you fail. Failure is apart of learning and at the very least you've learned what not to do.
I started when I was 12ish, I can really remember, my first dish was sweet and sour chicken. It was horrible, boiled chicken, undercooked rice, and canned sauce.
But to me it was like walking on the moon. Because despite how crap the dish was, I had taken my first steps into autonomy. It may have been crap, but it was crap I had made. I felt just a little bit grown up and self sufficient.
Don't be afraid anon. Just take it slow, keep ingredients handy, and remember, "Follow ze recipe"
