IMO it only hurt when the production is shit. I've seen the first ep on YT and it will be very good, despite I thought it will be shit. I'm on the hype train since that. What happened with Ash vs Evil Dead btw?

The humor feels more like Rocko's modern life than what I would expect Cuphead to have, I was hoping for something closer to old disney cartoons or at least old Loony Tunes

if they tried making plots closer to old 1930s rubber hose cartoons the show would be really boring, because those old shorts typically just used the novelty of “moving drawing” and “sychronised sound” as the main selling point. Watch any of those shorts now and they get a little dull. Also I’d say the show feels more reminiscent of The Twisted Tales of Felix the Cat than Rocko.

Thing is what’s been shown so far has been really good. Also Cuphead is a video game inspired by old cartoons so making it into an actual cartoon is a no brainer

The exact opposite is true, it makes it redundant. Hell all cartoon adaptations of video games are redundant because video games are already a visual medium. There is a 0% chance that this show will look better than the game itself. We already know that it has a distinctly modern style, unlike the cartoon which was painstakingly crafted to evoke the 1930s.

They've put so much work into it that the original game was delayed multiple times and the expansion is taking so long that it's probably being repurposed into a full sequel.

A lot of old cartoons were actually very manic in terms of plot, granted there often wasn't much in the way of dialogue or character depth but they excelled at dynamic visual storytelling and were often completely off the wall and kinetic.

The problem is like the Moldenhauers said if they did it themselves in the exact style of the show based on the experience making the game it would never get finished. Which is why different people are animating it.

Eh, I enjoyed some adapations. Not much western ones, but I did like the Carmen Sandiego Netflix show, and have a soft spot for the 90's Mega Man cartoon (the new one kind of sucks though). If anime adaptations count, my absolute favorite adaption is Bomberman Jetters, and I also enjoy Kirby: Right Back at Ya! But, yeah, not every video game adaption is a winner.
